1989 Fender Strat Plus

3-Color Sunburst Finish

Joe’s 1989 Strat has a special set of pickups courtesy of Steve Blucher at DiMarzio. The pickups in this guitar include a 36th Anniversary PAF humbucker in the bridge position and Area 67 silent singles in the middle and neck positions.

Additional specs and modifications:

  • Rosewood fingerboard
  • Neck compound radiused to taper from 10″ to 12″
  • Roller nut replaced with standard (bone)
  • Rewired for master volume & master tone controls
  • Sperzel locking tuners
  • Tremolo blocked off
  • Stainless steel frets by Michael Tuttle

This guitar is a composite of 2 different Strat Plus models, both made in 1989. After fooling with both for a few years, we ended up taking the best neck from one, the body and other parts from the other, and adding the DiMarzio pickups, Sperzel machines, etc. The guitar really came to life after a visit to Michael Tuttle at BestFrets.com – he expertly installed stainless steel frets and gave it a superb setup.

When recording either rhythm or lead parts, this is the guitar that, 8 times out of 10, seems to have the most organic tone. The playability is fantastic and the stainless frets feel like glass – addictive.
